Having supported
Aston Villa for most
of his life,
Lance became disillusioned
with Premiership
football, and opted to
support Darlo
some years ago. Darlo were chosen as we were one of the teams he
enjoyed watching during his 19 years in the Army. Lance was nominated
for the Commendation, due to his outstanding support of Darlington
Football Club.
Due to the fact
that he lives in Harbourne, West Midlands, a lot of fans will know
him as 'Harbo Darlo'. Even though he is a pensioner, he is a season
ticket holder and attends most away games. His local pub, The Sportsman
has a corner of it decorated in Darlo memorabilia, which has also
helped to create a section of new supporters in the Midlands. Groups
of football supporters from the Midlands frequently accompany Lance
to Darlo games, therefore extending our fan base.

Not only does
he spread the word about Darlo, he also contributes generously to
all supporters groups fund raising initiatives. The regulars at
The Sportsman in Harbourne, have all contributed towards the various
fund raising initiatives that Lance has promoted to them. In the
last 2 seasons alone this has raised hundreds of pounds. Lance sponsors
a player's kit each year, this current season being Anthony Peacocks
away strip. He regularly buys souvenirs from the club shop, displaying
them in The Sportsman, or giving them to friends.
Lance's infatuation
with Darlo became so well known, that the Birmingham Evening Mail
wrote an article about him, and the new fan base that has been created
thanks to Lance.

He is an active
member of the fans group DAFTS, and regularly contributes to their
website. The 'Harbo Darlo' section of the site is certainly worth
a read. Lance was nominated for this Commendation, for not only
his undoubted support, but also for his constant efforts to promote
the club in many ways.
Congratulations
to Lance for this award, and thank you for your dedication to supporting
Darlington Football Club.
