Darlington v Accrington - Jan 29th 2008

Result: 1-0 - Att: 2,808

Newcastle United might have Kevin Keegan back, but we have Dave Penney who's just signed a contract extension. This is great news for us, which has no doubt delighted supporters. By signing the extension to his contract, it demonstrates that Dave is committed to a long term future with Darlington, and bringing success to our club. Credit should also be given to George Houghton, who obviously recognises Dave Penney's qualities as our manager. George is also clearly backing Dave in his quest to sign good quality players, which in turn gives our club every chance of future success. Away from the pitch, much has been reported about the plans to develop land surrounding our fantastic stadium. Let us all hope that the planning permission is approved, which will not only raise our profile, but also give the town some excellent facilities.

Having been an avid supporter of Darlington Football Club for almost 25 years, I can say with great confidence that these really are good times to follow the Quakers. The future certainly does look 'rosey'. Now all that we need is more of the population of Darlington to know about the good work that is going on here, and come down to support our football club. I'm sure that more people will attend our games and support the Quakers as we continue to push for success. But if you have friends or relatives that may be interested, please do introduce them to supporting 'Darlo'.

This evening's visitors to the Arena are Accrington Stanley, who will provide another stern test for our lads. I have always enjoyed evening games, as they do seem to produce a good atmosphere. Let's hope that we can produce a good performance tonight, and hopefully take all 3 points.

The next few months are very important ones, as we push for a place in the top 3. Your support at home and away would be very much appreciated by Dave Penney and the lads. Why not consider travelling to away games with the Supporters Club? Membership is still available, costing £5 for adults and £1.50 for juniors. We run luxury coach travel to all away games, which are insured against postponements. If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact us.
