Darlington v Barnet - Feb 9th 2008

Result: 1-0 - Att: 3,145

Even though we were beaten at Wrexham last weekend, we did manage to stay second in the league which is a great position to be in. The last three performances have generally been disappointing by our high standards, which bagged 4 points. However, even the most successful teams in the world go through these periods. This afternoon's game against Barnet will no doubt be a difficult encounter, however it does give the lads the opportunity to recover from last weeks defeat by putting in a good performance and winning.

Two weeks ago today, we played out a 2-2 draw with Macclesfield Town here at the Arena. Once Tommy Wright put us into the lead, many fans probably took it for granted that we would win the game with ease. However, Macclesfield put us under pressure and scored twice. Thankfully, our pressure produced an equaliser and a point each was probably fair. Only 3 days later, and Accrington Stanley were the visitors to the Arena. The one lesson that I and presumably others learnt from the game, was to arrive on time!! I hadn't managed to get to my seat, but thankfully did see the ball hit the back of the net. Many may have wondered if the floodgates were about to open at this point, but that single goal was the only one in the game. Fair enough, this may not have been one of our better performances this season, but it was another 3 very valuable points.

The game at Wrexham was never going to be easy, against a side that are fighting for their league status. We all knew that Brian little would improve their fortunes, and this is proving to be the case after beating MK Dons then ourselves.

It is particularly disappointing at the moment that we are encountering quite a few injuries. We do have depth in our squad, and quality players to fill various positions. However, our list of injured or recovering players include Abbott, Foran, Oakes, Keltie and Smith. All are important members of our squad, so let's hope that we can get some of these pushing for a first team spot soon.

There are a lot of games to be played in the next few weeks, which will go a long way towards deciding our destiny this season. Your support at home and away would be very much appreciated by Dave Penney and the lads. Why not consider travelling to away games with the Supporters Club? Membership is still available, costing £5 for adults and £1.50 for juniors. We run luxury coach travel to all away games, which are insured against postponements.

If you would like more information, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Every Sunday night, at 7pm, is the new Alpha FM show that is dedicated to Darlington FC. Rather than take my word for how good it is, tune into 103.2 FM. Please continue to give the lads your excellent support this afternoon, and hopefully help them on their way to a win.

See you next time.
