Our disappointing recent form has severely dented our hopes of securing an automatic promotion place, so this afternoon is very much a 'must win' game. However, whilst it is still possible to finish in a top 3 position, we must rally round and give Dave Penney and the lads our full support.
Many of us wanted to avoid the play-off's, and achieve automatic promotion this season. Should this not happen, then we have to make sure that we firstly finish in a play-off position and secondly make sure that we return to form and win the play-off's. Fair enough, this season is no longer for the faint hearted, but at this moment in time everything is still very much to play for.
It was only a few weeks ago that we had so much competition between our strikers for a starting place. Then within a short space of time, they all got injured. Even, stand in striker Julian Joachim is also now injured!! Over the course of the season, I cannot believe how many injuries we have suffered. I don't believe that MK Dons or Peterborough have encountered anything like our injuries over the season, which is probably why they are fighting it out for the League 2 title. This situation has certainly hindered our campaign.
So whether we are playing for an automatic promotion place or a play off place, we really do need to beat Hereford United today to win 3 very valuable points. Of course, lets not forget that Hereford and presently just above us and also hoping to finish in the top 3. With other teams not too far behind us, a point this afternoon will be disappointing for either club.
Our last home game was against Bradford City, which we unfortunately lost. Then we went to Stockport County last weekend and were beaten by a single goal to nil. Both were very disappointing games for everybody. I'm sure that Dave Penney will be telling the lads to put those games behind them now, and move onto today's game. We have to do the same, and make sure that we do give Dave Penney and every player in a Darlington shirt our full backing. With expectation so high this season, it is so easy to get frustrated when results are not going our way. However, criticism will not help the lads, but support and encouragement may just make a difference.
After today we only have 3 scheduled games left, of which 2 of them are away at Chesterfield and Peterborough United. Your support at these remaining games could well be vital!! .

Representatives of the Supporters Club met with Commercial Director Grahame McDonnell prior to the recent Bradford City game. This was our second recent meeting with him, which was very positive for both parties. The commercial side of Darlington FC appears to be in good hands with Grahame at the helm, whose wealth of experience will be of great benefit to our club.
I cannot finish today's column without saying 'Welcome Back' to Craig Liddle. His appointment as the head of youth football will be warmly welcomed by supporters, who will no doubt all want to wish "Lidd's" well in his new role.
