Darlington v Lincoln City

Sept 15th 2007

Result: 2-0 - Att: 4,075

Expectation is no doubt high amongst Supporters as we return to the Arena for this afternoon's game against Lincoln City.

Following our good start to the season, we presently sit at the top of League as we go into today's game. There is an excitement growing that this season could bring success to our beloved Darlo. However, as Dave Penney has quite rightly pointed out, the season is a marathon and not a sprint, therefore we shouldn't get too carried away just yet. With that said, it is certainly a good time to be a Darlo Supporter at the moment.

Our last home game against Notts County ended in a 2-2 draw, as they equalised deep into injury time. Perhaps a little rough justice, but certainly not a disaster against a team that will cause problems on their day. So it was then down to Moss Rose, to face Macclesfield Town. Although the game ended goalless, the opinion was that we could have and perhaps should have won. However let's not forget that had it not been for David Stockdale's penalty save, we would have lost. We don't have a great record at their place, so a point wasn't a bad result.

Then last week, the lads produced probably their best result of the season so far, away at Rotherham. Thanks to a good all round team effort, this really is 3 very good points against a side that won't be too far away at the end of the season. So back to today, as we host Lincoln City. This is will certainly be another tough test for the lads, as the Imps are a strong side who finished recent seasons in play-off positions. I have to admit that Lincoln is one of my favourite away games of the season. Darlo fans are always made to feel welcome in the club house at Sincil Bank, and enjoy a pre-match drink with the home support.

Let's hope for a good game this afternoon, and hopefully another 3 points for Darlo.

I'm sure that many of you will be aware, that at the end of each season the Supporters Club presents a trophy to the player with the most man of the match votes away from home. These votes are cast on the coaches travelling back from each game. Most recently, David Stockdale was voted our man of the match at Macclesfield, whilst against Rotherham one of the coaches voted for Stephen Foster and the other for Tommy Wright.

As everybody is now probably aware, the draw for the 2nd round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy has given us a home tie against Leeds United. This seems to be causing some excitement amongst supporters, which should hopefully produce a good attendance on the night. Traditionally this competition has never produced too much to shout about for Darlo, but let's hope it does this year.

Anyway, enjoy the game and give the lads your full support. See you next time.

Andy Smith
