A very warm welcome back to the Arena, for this afternoon's game against Macclesfield Town. After a disappointing return of points over the festive period, we returned to winning ways against Bury a fortnight ago. The performance was a solid one, and to be fair we could well have won by a larger margin. It is always very pleasing to see any of our players putting the ball into the back of the net, however it was probably extra special to see Ian Miller getting on the scoresheet after signing a permanent deal. So after a 'good day at the office' against Bury, we then made the fairly short trek across the Pennines for the re-arranged game at Morecambe. Looking at their recent impressive form, it was clear that this was never going to be an easy encounter. However, after withstanding early pressure, we took the lead thanks to Neil Austin's first ever goal, and what a good one it was too!! Two further very good goals followed, and we won the game comfortably. The whole team deserved great credit, as this really was a very good result. Supporters Club members voted David Stockdale as their 'man of the match' on the journey home. Thankfully, the heavy rain didn't arrive early enough to abandon the game this time!!
Then last Saturday, we again took to the road to play Mansfield Town. Once again we won, thanks to Richie Foran's penalty and therefore gained another very valuable 3 points. Our members voted David Stockdale as 'man of the match' on one coach, and Greg Blundell on the other.
So well done to Dave Penney and the lads, for winning all 3 games that we played within 8 days, and not conceding a goal!! Obviously our re-arranged game at Barnet last Tuesday was postponed, due to their FA Cup replay having to be re-arranged. This afternoon will be another hard game, but let's hope that we continue to play well and get another win.
I'm sure that Dave Penney and the lads would appreciate your support at home and away. If you would like to travel to away games, why not get in touch with us?
AWAY TRAVEL
The Supporters Club continue to provide luxury coach travel to away fixtures, the next 2 being as follows:
Day Date Visit Bus Departs Cost on Bus Saturday 2nd Feb 08 Wrexham 09:30am £20.00 Tuesday 12th Feb 08 Notts County 15:30pm £17.50Bookings can be made in the Tinshed Bar before this evening's game, or give us a ring on 01325 243911. Please note that fans under 14 years old must be accompanied by an adult when travelling on our coaches.
These are certainly exciting times to be a Darlington fan, with our team winning regularly and playing good football along the way. The only disappointing aspect so far, is that our attendances are not as high as they could be. I would like to think that the attendances will increase significantly in the final months of the season, as we push for promotion. However, can I ask every fan reading this column to please try and encourage their family, friends and work colleagues to come along and support the lads?
Welcome back to Darlo to Ryan Valentine, who re-joins us from Wrexham. Ryan is a quality addition to our squad who was always popular with the fans. I'm sure that we are all pleased to see him back in a Darlo shirt, as he will be an important part of our squad.
I would like to take this opportunity to pass on my thanks and Best Wishes for the future to Kevin Luff, who is moving onto moving onto pastures new. As you may be aware, one of Kevin's roles was that of the editor of the matchday programme, which he noticeably improved. So good luck in your new job Kev.
See you next time.
