Darlington v Mansfield - Feb 26th 2008

Result: 1-2 - Att: 3,527

For the second Saturday in a row, we have a home fixture to look forward to with Mansfield Town being today's visitors. Obviously it was only a few weeks ago that we played them away from home, and won thanks to Richie Foran's penalty. No doubt, the Mansfield team will want to try and avenge that result and therefore will prove to be difficult opponents this afternoon.

After our disappointing result at Wrexham, the lads returned to winning ways by beating Barnet last Saturday. Although we didn't play as well as we could, thanks to Julian Joachim's well taken goal we took all 3 points from the game, which is the most important thing. It's probably fair to say that we haven't played our best football over recent games. However, the fact that we have continued to pick up the points, shows that we have a good quality squad, which is very encouraging. I'm sure that we all are thrilled at our present position in the league, and look forward to the remainder of the season with some excitement. Once again, these really are good times to be a Darlo fan!!

Due to print deadlines, I cannot comment on the Notts. County game, but lets hope that we got a good result down there on Tuesday night. Hopefully we can put in a good performance this afternoon for our home crowd, and importantly win another game, and 3 valuable points.

The Supporters Club held a meeting with Darlington based radio station Alpha FM, last Sunday evening. You may be aware of Alpha's 'Moving on up' campaign, which is aimed at encouraging support for Darlington FC's promotion push. It is our intention to support Alpha FM with this campaign, and help raise its profile in various ways. I will keep you informed in due course. After the show, Karen Glencross and I joined Neil Maddison in the studio for the talkshow all about Darlington FC. This really is a show worth listening to on a Sunday evening, as it is totally dedicated to our football club. Alpha FM are very keen to hear from Supporters, so if you would like to ring in during the show to talk Darlo, don't forget the telephone number 01325 255555.

It was great news to hear that Darlo will be represented in the Masters event at the Newcastle Metro Arena, in June of this year. I have watched the event for years on Sky TV, and always hoped that Darlo would be represented one day. Although we don't know yet who will don the Darlo shirts, I do think that it will be very popular amongst our fans. Not only will it be an exciting event, but I bet that I am not the only one that will be seizing the opportunity for a night out in Newcastle.

Don't forget that we have another very important game on Tuesday night, when we play host to Chester City in the re-arranged fixture here at the Arena. In the meantime, enjoy this afternoon's game, and please continue to give the lads your excellent support.

Andy Smith
