Darlington v Peterborough

Sept 29th 2007

Result: 1-1 - Att: 3,974

After last weeks defeat to the MK Dons, this afternoon gives us a chance to return to winning ways. Peterborough United are today's visitors to the Arena, for a game that promises to be a tough encounter. Expectation is high amongst both clubs and their fans for this season, and with 3 very important points up for grabs today, a good game is hopefully in store.

Our last home game against Lincoln City produced a good 2-0 win, thanks to goals from Pawel Abbott and Ricky Ravenhill. It was an entertaining game, whilst we could so easily have won by a bigger margin, especially if the Lincoln keeper hadn't pulled off that great late save from Julian Joachim. At the other end of the pitch the lads achieved another clean sheet, which typifies the quality of our defence.

Then last week it was our first ever visit to the new stadium of the MK Dons, and unfortunately our first defeat of the season. Fair enough, we knew that it would come at some point, although I'm sure that everybody was disappointed to lose to a goal so late on in the game. However, it is done now, so we have to move on and hopefully return to winning ways against 'The Posh' today.

Although we have played Peterborough on numerous occasions since they beat us in the play-off final at Wembley, when ever we do meet I always seem to reflect on that dreadful rainy Friday night in north London. I don't think I'll ever forget that disappointment, although a successful campaign this season will go a long way towards leaving those memories in the past. Let's hope for a good game this afternoon, and hopefully another 3 points for Darlo.

The man of the match as voted by fans returning home from the MK Dons game, was Stephen Foster. As previously stated, all votes will be collated at the end of the season and the player with the most will be presented with a trophy.

As we know, today's game is the start of a very busy few weeks for Darlo with a couple of mid-week games thrown into the equation. We are at home again on Tuesday evening, with Rochdale being the visitors. Then after our visit to Dagenham & Redbridge, it is the Johnstone's Paint Trophy game against Leeds United. So there is plenty to look forward to in the coming weeks, and hopefully the lads can achieve some good results.

Obviously we can play our part during this busy period of the season, by supporting the lads as much as possible. So back to this afternoon, please give Dave Penney and the team your full backing and hopefully help them win. Enjoy the game, and see you on Tuesday.

Andy Smith
