Darlington v Rochdale

Oct 2nd 2007

Result: 1-1 - Att: 3,031

A very warm welcome to everybody for tonight's game at the Arena against Rochdale. At the time of writing these notes I am not aware of the Peterborough result, however let's hope that it was a good one for Darlo. Rochdale are one of those teams that we have played a lot over recent years, and haven't done particularly well against. Of course there will be many of us present this evening that witnessed us being demolished by Rochdale here at the Arena last season.

Since that encounter, a great deal has changed here at Darlington. The obvious changes are that Dave Penney is now our manager, and our playing squad has changed a great deal. I'm sure that everybody would agree that our present squad is a vast improvement in depth and quality. So from a Darlo fans point of view, a home win is very important this evening.

Our next home game is of course the Johnstone's Paint Trophy game against Leeds United, next week. This tie certainly stirred up some interest when the draw was made, so let's hope that there will be a good attendance. Talking of which, it is good to see that there are some initiatives in place to encourage more school children along to games. I'm sure that we would all like to see more people coming through the turnstiles on matchdays, especially new fans and children to support their home town team instead of following the bigger names in football.

Due to the next England game, the decision has been made to move our home game against Stockport County to the Sunday. I have to admit that I like the occasional Sunday game, and prefer this to a Friday night fixture. Hopefully this will prove to be a popular decision. No doubt the carvery will be busy with fans enjoying their Sunday roast and a pint before kick-off.

A few of us are presently in the process of planning a weekend trip to Morecambe in December, to co-inside with our away game there. When I mentioned a pre-Christmas weekend away to Tracey, I think she had thoughts of perhaps London or Barcelona. Perhaps a theatre trip on the Saturday night? But what could be better than Morecambe in December, and that refreshing coastal breeze that will go with it. Fair enough there won't be a theatre trip, but a couple of nights drinking with Tony & Lesley Waters and the Dafts can't be argued with. As you will see from the photo, our last trip away with the Dafts was to Torquay, and proved a great success. Already looking forward to Morecambe!!
