Darlington v Rotherham - Dec 26th 2007

Result: 1-1 - Att: 6,965

Welcome to the Darlington Balfour Webnet Arena, for this afternoon's Boxing Day fixture against Rotherham United. I hope that everybody had a great Christmas Day, and that Santa brought you all the presents that you wished for.

This afternoon's game is a big one, between 2 teams challenging for promotion this season, and I'm sure that both sets of fans will be hoping for an extra Christmas present of 3 points for their team. After the disappointment of the Morecambe game being abandoned recently, we then had the further disappointment of our last scheduled home game against Chester City being postponed due to a frozen pitch. Not only was it bitterly disappointing that the Chester game did not survive the frost, but the fact that we hadn't played a game for 3 consecutive Saturdays was less than ideal. Fair enough, we have games in hand, but I'm sure that Dave Penney and the lads would rather have points in the bag. Thankfully we did have the away game at Grimsby on a Tuesday night in early December, which produced a cracking 4-0 win. In respect of the Chester game, all credit must be given to the ground staff who worked long and hard to try and prepare the pitch. Unfortunately the weather won on this occasion.

So as you read these notes, hopefully the game today is on!! Due to print deadlines, I am unable to comment upon the game at Lincoln, but let's hope that it was similar to last years win for Darlington.

A number of us spent the weekend in Morecambe recently, due to our game there which was unfortunately a victim of the weather. However, we did made the most of it, and you can see our feature on the Supporters Club website, www.dfcsc.co.uk

CHRISTMAS RAFFLE

Tickets for this years Supporters Club Christmas raffle, will still be on sale prior to today's game, at our table in the Tinshed Bar. Cash prizes are on offer, along with various other items. The draw will be made after today's game, in the Corner Bar.

I would like to think that there will be a bumper crowd here at the Arena for this afternoon's game, including possibly a number of new supporters that may have been introduced to our football club by friends and family. The Supporters Club recently ran a campaign, entitled 'Bring a friend on Boxing Day' aimed at encouraging fans to introduce their friends and family members to Darlington FC. Whether you regularly attend games, occasionally or this is your first time, I hope that you thoroughly enjoy this afternoon and I look forward to seeing you return in the future.

Our next home fixture is certainly another big game, with MK Dons being the visitors this coming Saturday. I'm sure that there will be another bumper crowd, with expectation high amongst the fans of both clubs. Please continue to give the lads your excellent support, and let's hope for another win.

See you next time.

Andy Smith
