This evening's opponents Shrewsbury Town have like ourselves had a good start to the season, and will no doubt provide another tough test for our lads. Our recent results against the Shrews have been poor, so let's hope that we can change that tonight with a Darlo win.
Our last home game against Chesterfield produced a goalless draw, which left many supporters with mixed feelings about the result. It is always slightly disappointing to be held at home to a draw, when you are looking to catch the teams above you. However, when you look at how many of our first team were missing through injury and suspension, you have to admit that a draw against a very good and at full strength Chesterfield side was in fact a good result. Both teams had their chances, but a point a piece was a fair result. Other results went our way on the day, and we infact reduced the gap between ourselves and MK Dons by a point.
Then last Saturday, we were away at Hereford United. Let's hope that we got a good result there. Shortly after the Chesterfield game, many fans gathered in the Arena bars to watch the FA Cup 1st round draw. Darlington was first out of the bag, with a home tie against Northampton Town. No doubt another hard game, but it is a good draw as we are at home and are capable of beating our League 1 opponents. I'm sure that Northampton won't be looking forward to coming to the Arena to play us.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The Supporters Club Annual General Meeting will be held here at the Arena on the evening of Tuesday 27th November. The Ron Greener suite is the venue for the meeting which starts at 7.30pm. Barry Simmonds will be present to represent the club and meet fans. All members will be made very welcome, whilst the bar will be open.
As I write these programme notes (Thursday morning), I have just checked the club website and was surprised to read that pop music legend Sir Elton John will be performing at the Arena next July. At this moment in time, I don't know much more than that, but have to admit that this is great news for our club and the town of Darlington. To my knowledge, never before has a star of this magnitude performed in Darlington. This will no doubt be very popular, and I'm sure that many of us football fans will be there bopping along to songs like 'Crocodile Rock' and 'I'm still Standing'. In our Darlo shirts obviously!! So if you are not sure what to buy your loved ones this Christmas, you do now.
Whilst I am on the subject of Christmas, about 2 weeks ago in Sunderland I saw the first house this year with its decorations on display. The tree at the window, lights everywhere inside and out. Could not believe it, as it was only October!! After a recent visit to our carvery, can I suggest that when planning your Christmas party, you consider having it here at the Arena? As always, the food prepared by Helen Todd and her team is excellent. I'm sure that you will enjoy a great meal and wonderful festive night out.
Anyway, back to tonight's game. The vocal support during some of our recent games has been first class, which I'm sure does encourage the lads on the pitch. Please keep it going this evening, and enjoy the game.
See you next time.
