Good afternoon and welcome to the Arena for a rare Sunday afternoon League 2 fixture. Stockport County are this afternoon's opponents, and with the game being moved back to a Sunday, hopefully it will attract a higher attendance. This is obviously a huge weekend for sport, with very important games for England football and rugby teams, and with our game here today just as important to many fans.
I have to admit that I don't mind the occasional Sunday game, and recall attending quite a few many years ago at Feethams. Does anybody recall getting beaten by Doncaster Rovers in fog so dense, that many of us did not in fact see the goals going in? Then last season, we played Hartlepool Utd on a Sunday here at the Arena and lost. Let's hope that we have more luck today. It certainly seems to have been a very busy schedule of football for Darlo recently, with a number of mid-week games being played. Our last 2 home league games both provided stern tests for the lads, which as we know resulted in draws against Peterborough United and Rochdale.
We then hit the road, and visited the capital to play Dagenham & Redbridge. With an unbeaten home record, they were always going to be difficult opponents. However, following the disappointment of recent results, the lads 'came up trumps' by winning 3 -0. Obviously it is always good to see the strikers scoring, as Tommy Wright and Gregg Blundell did. However it was particularly pleasing to see our captain Stephen Foster hitting the back of the net, or in this case the roof. He was also voted man of the match by our members returning from the game. Well done Fozzie!!
Then on Tuesday evening we hosted Leeds United in the second round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, and in front of the Sky Sports camera's. We went down 1-0 in a battling display in front of almost 8,000 fans!

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
Plans are presently being made to hold the Supporters Club Annual General Meeting on the evening of Tuesday 27th November, in the Ron Greener suite here at the Arena. It is also hoped that representatives of Darlington Football Club will be present to meet fans and answer questions. With the Festive season on the horizon, the Supporters Club will once again be running a Christmas raffle, which will include cash prizes. Full details regarding this and our AGM will be announced in due course.
It is encouraging to see our football club looking at initiatives for fans. The '3 from 5' promotion means that fans can save money on admission, and will hopefully attract people to more games. Meanwhile, I believe that the Chairman should be applauded for the initiative where every secondary school student in Darlington will be offered a match ticket in the New Year. With the bright lights and glamour of the Premiership attracting many youngsters to become armchair fans of certain clubs, it is very refreshing to see positive steps being taken to let them see what their home town club has to offer. Of course, good performances and results improve attendances, so let's hope that we keep moving in the right direction which will see an increasing number of fans come through the turnstiles on matchdays.
There are a number of teams packed together at the top end of League 2 presently, so let's hope for a win this afternoon. Please get behind the lads, and give them your full support.
