For some years the Supporters Club Football Team have enjoyed encounters with clubs in the same league.
On the 4th June the supporters club team travelled to Blackpool to play in a 7-a-side competition, which has now become a regular yearly event. Placed in a league of eight teams they did battle and this is how the team performed:
Middlesbrough 1 v 0 Darlington Darlington 0 v 0 Chester Darlington 0 v 0 Shrewsbury Blackpool Team A 1 v 1 Darlington Darlington 6 v 0 West Brom Darlington 1 v 0 QPR Blackpool Team B 1 v 1 DarlingtonAfter some gruelling 15 minute matches we did not quite secure enough points to get in to the Champions League, so we had to make do with the runners up, Beer League. (This was probably more appropriate for the team anyway!)
Overall we actually finished 5th out of 8 teams which was a great effort. Looking back over the games though, we drew to many along the way, that eventually costing us a champions league place in the end.
In the Beer League we were drawn against West Brom whilst Shrewsbury played Chester for a place in the final.
Shrewsbury got through thanks to penalties and we secured a final place by hammering West Brom by 4 goals to 1.
In the final it was a tense affair, with neither side wanting to give away any silly goals. The game flew by and before we knew it - PENALTIES!
Darlington won the penalty shootout 3 - 2.
Credit to all the players for securing a dream - winning, The Beer League
Cheers,
The dfcsc.co.uk team
