MORECAMBE WEEKEND TRIP
Andy Smith tells
us about the Morecambe day when the game was abandoned.
Tracey
and i picked up Karen in Darlington shortly after 9am on Saturday morning,
and got to our hotel on the sea front in Morcambe for about 11am. We met up
with Tony and Leslie Waters & the DAFTS in the nearby Weatherspoons pub shortly
after, where we stayed until about 2.15pm. It was absolutley lashing it down
with rain, and we knew the game may not go ahead, as did the large number
of Darlo fans who were also in the same pub, and enjoying the atmosphere.
Having made
our way to the game, it was obvious to the large Darlo following that playing
football would be impossible. All credit to the referee for giving it a go,
but it was the right decision to abandon it. So it was straight back to Weatherspoons
, for an afternoon of watching Sky Sports and sampling the various beverages
on offer. Of which there was many i must add!! A curry was the chosen option
for Saturday night, and was enjoyed by all. Before going home on Sunday, we
visited Eric Morcambe who it appears was in fact a Darlo fan!!
Lastly, as per tradition
on an 'away weekend' it was a 'knickerbocker glory' to finnish things off
with. Fair enough, the game was off, and taking home 3 points would have been
nice. But we certainly made the best of the weekend!!
Cheers
